well i've been here for over a year now and it's been great, extremely helpful.
i have made new friends and found a place where i feel i belong, people with like minds.. anyway, 6 months before i started posting here my life was in the crapper or so i thought.
i have maintained an assumption here that i'm single.
At least you two are trying, that's all you can hope for, if it works great, if not then at least you know in your heart you gave it all you could, and that is NOTHING to be ashamed/scared/hurt about.
I have always enjoyed your humourous posts, so keep them coming.
Good Luck , hope everything works out for you.
i was just wondering if this was the largest xjw forum on the internet.
what other large ones exists?.
if this is the largest xjw forum, watchtower people in brooklyn and even elders must have a look at this site quite often..
I don't know about the largest (probaly), but it is the best site I have found so far !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ever have one in your congregation?.
i was at my cousin's wedding this past weekend, and the po from his kingdom hall was present.
this guy is a real piece of work.
Sorry to repeat myself but there are some people out there who have had no life, a crappy job, crappy pay, never a position in life, have never had anything worth while in life. Then they become an elder and are in charge !!!!!!!!!!!!! And feel so important and think they are the only reason the congregation stays together, and the only reason the sun rises everyday. And the more they do and keep their FAMILY in line, the higher they will go. (or so they think)
watchtower opens way for furman street property development
the watchtower bible and tract society of new york, inc., a legal entity of jehovah's witnesses in the united states, has announced the possibility of selling its nearly one-million-square-foot building on the brooklyn waterfront at 360 furman street.
for some 20 years, this building has been the principal shipping facility for the bibles and bible-based publications produced by jehovah's witnesses at their world headquarters.
ANY ONE have a realistic guess what this will sell for ??????????????
must be prime property.
i was quite surprized when a relative of mine needed a ride to the district assembly and couldn't find one.. what surprized me was two older sisters, who have been utterly faithful over the years, separately said they aren't going.. we already know the watchtower is losing witness kids enmasse but this looks unusual.
what's left for old-timers anyway?
all the urgent depth of doctrine is gone - the society can't defend anything.
""I was quite surprized when a relative of mine needed a ride to the district assembly and couldn't find one.""
It's getting to the point where the Watchtower can't even take care of their own let alone getting new ones.
How frustrating it must be for the older ones ........
You spend your life and time in the borg, and when you need help, no one to be found, I have heard this story over and over again.
The best was a bethel person who spent 40 years in the borg, travelling all over, preaching, preaching, preaching, he said " Now I am old, and cannot do things I once could, so what do I have, no pension, no money, I'm in an old age home with no other JW's and must buy clothes at the Salvation Army."
How sad it is.
my sister just got a visit from the elders.
this was the first visit in 10 years.
an inactive friend told me they are supposed to visit every year.
I think you will see more of this in the next few years mainly because ............
attendance is dropping, "new ones" coming in at a very ssssssssslllllllooooooowwwwwwww pace.
I think the congregations and the Watchtower are a little bit worried.
they think it's easier to bring someone in who already nows the basics, then to bring in someone from scratch.
Wish I could make, Have one for all of us Canadians across the ocean.
Have a great time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Make sure you update us Englishman and let us know how it went.
i was at the hospital the other day in the waiting room for about 2 hours with a friend, and i noticed only one awake magazine from 2000 in the pile of reading material.. i always thought that the watchtower was trying to "preach the good news to all the inhabited earth before the end comes".
well , they don't like the internet, which is the # 1 way to inform people, you cannot get a subscription anymore unless someone at the hall does it for you or you are still attending, probaly why i didn't see any at the hospital, or lawyers office, or doctor's office etc etc etc.. it seems to me that they are trying to limit what info gets out to the outside world, is this not contradicting all they have preached the last 50 years.. no subscriptions for anyone who might want one ?????????.
no new books, for anyone who is not a jw.. what do you think ????????.
Gary, I always enjoy your comments EXCELLENT.
Let's take this one step further, with the internet, Why wouldn't the society have their weekly Sunday talks and Watchtowers accessible by internet connection for all to hear and even the assembly talks. Would this not help "preach the good news in all the inhabited earth."
It just seems to me that less and less info/publications are available for those on the outside looking in.
i've been thinking about the part at the dc on "beware the voice of strangers".
they mention three areas to watch: any dissenting talk against the organization, the internet and the media(as in newspapers, news-shows on tv, etc.).
there's been quite a bit of talk already on this board about the internet part of the talk.
Undercover, you touched on just a few, there are so many "misquotes" and "we never said that."
The medis today is so advanced compared to previous generations. Look at the Iraq War, turn on your TV and you can watch it daily from the BATTLEFIELD. Information travels so fast today, it's almost scary. Their quotes regarding the media, is to cover their ass regarding so many sex abuse charges and scandals (UN) that are coming out.
I talked to my family recently and NONE claimed to have heard about the UN scandal.
I have said a kazillion times, all you have to do is read the history of the watchtower and any normal human who can think would run away from it.
One of my favorites is the 1973 Kingdom Ministry that stated "What would the purpose be of advancing in a career which will take 8-10 years when Armageddon will be here by then. Many brothers and sisters have quit their jobs and sold their homes to spend the last days out in the field service. What a fine example they are."
And another one is "It is very unlikely we will see the 21st Century" quoted from the Watchtower in 1989.
The Watchtower is SCARED.
The internet has TOO MUCH info for them to keep up with. Their was a time when their was NO INFO on Russel/Rutherford/Knorr to read about, only what the Watchtower told us. NOW their whole history is plastered on so many sites. All you have to do is read it and you realize what a FARCE the whole thing is.
There are very few "new ones" coming in and the younger generation of JW's is getting smaller.
The Watchtower is afraid, very afraid.
Never thought I would see the day.
